Two Spirit Sundance Gathering & Monthly Ceremony

At KKT, ceremony is not something separate from daily life; it is practiced through the relationships we build, the food we share, the stories we carry, and the responsibilities we hold to one another and the land.

Founded in 1987, the Kunsi Keya Tamakoce Two-Spirit Sundance is a matriarchal Lakota ceremonial gathering rooted in prayer, sacrifice, healing, and community responsibility. Held annually on Grandmother Turtle Land, Sundance offers participants an opportunity to deepen their relationship with themselves, their community, Mother Earth, and All Our Relations.

Guided by nearly four decades of ceremonial leadership and tradition, the Sundance welcomes individuals who are committed to approaching the work with humility, respect, sobriety, and a willingness to participate fully in community life. The ceremony is supported by shared meals, communal responsibilities, teachings, prayer, song, and the collective care of the ceremonial circle.

Participation is by application and requires a commitment to the values, protocols, and responsibilities of the ceremonial community.

Monthly Ceremonies

Throughout the year, Kunsi Keya Tamakoce offers monthly ceremonies, teachings, and community gatherings that support spiritual growth, cultural learning, relationship building, and collective healing. These gatherings may include sweat lodge ceremonies, pipe ceremonies, full moon teachings, talking circles, seasonal celebrations, cultural teachings, and community meals.

Rooted in Lakota values of reciprocity, respect, and relational accountability, these gatherings provide opportunities for participants to deepen their connection to ceremony, community, and the natural world while learning alongside elders, teachers, and fellow community members.

Whether attending for the first time or returning as a long-time participant, individuals are welcomed into a space of prayer, reflection, learning, and shared responsibility.

At KKT, ceremony is not something separate from daily life; it is practiced through the relationships we build, the food we share, the stories we carry, and the responsibilities we hold to one another and the land.

Our teachings are rooted in a simple belief: when people gather with openness, humility, and curiosity, learning becomes transformation.

Kunsi Keya Tamakoce offers teachings, workshops, and facilitated learning experiences rooted in Lakota values, Indigenous wisdom, matriarchal leadership, and community care. Drawing from nearly four decades of ceremonial practice and intergenerational knowledge, our workshops create opportunities for individuals, organizations, schools, and communities to engage in meaningful dialogue, reflection, and learning.

Topics may include Indigenous perspectives on leadership, Two-Spirit teachings and visibility, storytelling as healing, relational accountability, community building, grief and resilience, intergenerational learning, land stewardship, cultural preservation, and the role of ceremony in everyday life.

When we care for the land, we care for one another. When we care for one another, we honor the generations yet to come.

At Kunsi Keya Tamakoce, we believe the land is one of our greatest teachers. Our Land Stewardship & Community Gatherings programs invite people into a deeper relationship with Mother Earth through hands-on learning, community service, cultural teachings, food sovereignty initiatives, and shared responsibility for the well-being of future generations.

Rooted on Grandmother Turtle Land, these gatherings bring together youth, elders, families, community members, and volunteers to care for the land while strengthening connections with one another.

Through gardening, food cultivation, harvesting, seed saving, food preservation, ceremonial site care, ecological stewardship, and community work days, participants learn that caring for the Earth is inseparable from caring for ourselves and our communities.

Our work is guided by Lakota values of reciprocity, gratitude, respect, and responsibility.

We recognize that the health of our communities is directly connected to the health of the land, waters, plants, animals, and ecosystems that sustain us.
